The annual Teaming With Wildlife Fly-In is sponsored by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, the national TWW steering committee and the National Invasive Species Council.The Fly-In is the coalition’s premiere event to inform members of Congress of the value of the State & Tribal Wildlife Grants Program.

The Best Practices for State Wildlife Action Plans (SWAPs) report was approved by the Teaming With Wildlife (TWW) Committee at the AFWA Annual Meeting in September 2012. The goal was to raise the bar for SWAPs by identifying best practices based on innovations and lessons learned from the years since SWAPs were developed.

I’m delighted to announce that the letter supporting funding for State & Tribal Wildlife Grants surpassed 600 organizations. We will be delivering it to Senators Reed and Murkowski later today. Few if any conservation programs have as large or diverse support as this program. As leaders and members of the Teaming With Wildlife Coalition you went above and beyond the call of duty to make this letter successful. Thank you for your tireless work.

Update on Letter Supporting Funding for FY13 for the State & Tribal Wildlife Grants Program

UPDATED August 14 (5:30pm). Over 400 organizations have now signed on to the letter to Senators Reed (RI) and Murkowski (AK) supporting funding in FY13 for the State and Tribal Wildlife Grants Program. The House Appropriations Committee has proposed a massive 50% cut to the program and the letter is intended to show that there is strong grassroots support for the program. The State and Tribal Wildlife Grants program is the only federal program with the purpose of preventing endangered species listings and we have successes in every state and territory that we can show.

Once again the US House of Representatives has proposed a massive (50%) cut to the State and Tribal Wildlife Grants Program for the fiscal year starting in September. This program has already been cut by over 30% since 2010. We understand the fiscal constraints of the country and know everyone needs to do their part. However this large and disproportionate cut to a successful program that is preventing endangered species listings does not make economic sense. We know that when a species has to be federally listed, costs skyrocket!
